The primers used were as follows: glyoxalase I [23] forward, 5′-ATTTGGCCACATTGGGATTGC-3′, and reverse, 5′-TTCAATCCAGTAGCCATCAGG-3′; Nrf2 [24] forward, 5′-GAGACGGCCATGACTGAT-3′, and reverse, 5′-GTGAGGGGATCGATGAGTAA-3′; PPARγ [25] forward, 5′-CCCTGGCAAAGCATTTGTAT-3′, and reverse, 5′-ACTGGCACCCTTGAAAAATG-3′; RAGE [26] forward, 5′-CTACCTATTCCTGCAGCTTC-3′, and reverse, 5′-CTGATGTTGACAGGAGGGCTTTCC-3′; β-actin forward, 5′-CTTTCTACAATGAGCTGCGTG-3′, and reverse, 5′-TCATGAGGTAGTCTGTCAGG-3′ [27]. Pancreas and liver tissues were homogenized in RIPA buffer (Cell Signaling Technology, Beverly, MA, USA) using a homogenizer.

Variability of the mRNA generated by alternative splicing has also been proposed as a mechanism to regulate RAGE expression in humans [11] and rats [12]. Here, we have studied a new mechanism of regulation of the rat RAGE expression.
