Pituitary gland
2022, Sturkie's Avian PhysiologySeasonal differences in the transcriptome profile of the Zhedong white goose (Anser cygnoides) pituitary gland
2021, Poultry ScienceCitation Excerpt :Estrogen responsiveness of the rat prolactin gene requires the presence of both estrogen receptor (ER) and POU1F1, suggesting a synergistic effect in inducing PRL gene transcription, synthesis, and secretion (Day et al., 1990; Nowakowski and Maurer, 1994; Ying and Lin, 2000). POU1F1 also activated PRL gene expression in chicken (Ohkubo et al., 2000) and in domestic turkey (Weatherly et al., 2001). NR4A2 works in concert with POU1F1 to enhance PRL expression in cell culture (Peel et al., 2020).
Pituitary Gland
2015, Sturkie's Avian Physiology: Sixth EditionRole of chicken Pit-1 isoforms in activating growth hormone gene
2011, General and Comparative EndocrinologyCitation Excerpt :Therefore, a luciferase analysis was conducted using pGL3-chGH160. Because it is known that an increase of cellular cAMP induced by forskolin enhances Pit-1 dependent transactivation of the GH promoter in vitro [19,25], we tested forskolin-induced activation of the chGH promoter in CHO-K1 cells expressing chPit-1 isoforms (Fig. 5). Forskolin significantly enhanced chPit-1α dependent activation of pGL3-chGH160, and chPit-1γ increased luciferase activity to the same extent using chPit-1α expressing CHO-K1cells.
Molecular cloning and characterisation of the Magang goose prolactin gene
2008, General and Comparative EndocrinologyCitation Excerpt :The finding that in geese, high PRL secretion under long photoperiod is associated with elevated VIP mRNA expression in the hypothalamus (Huang et al., 2007), reinforces this view, and suggests a stimulatory role of VRE in PRL gene expression in the goose as well. But, on the contrary, the role of Pit-1, and its binding site, in regulating PRL gene expression in avian species has remained inconclusive, since Pit-1 was not found to co-stain with turkey pituitary lactotroph cells (Weatherly et al., 2001). In mammals, where PRL is under the inhibitory control of dopamine secreted from hypothalamus (Freeman et al., 2000), Pit-1 is a key transcription factor of the PRL gene and its expression in lactotrophs was inhibited by dopamine (Lew and Elsholtz, 1995).
