2019, Behavioural Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :Forward inference reasoning [30,31] points on brain mechanisms in the precuneus, temporo-parietal, medial prefrontal and insular regions, as found previously in studies involving self-referenced activity and processing of mental time [32–34]. Memory-based processing would mainly engage medial-temporal and inferior parietal regions [35–39], while calculation-based mechanism should be found in the left angular gyrus and the intraparietal sulcus [40–42]. In patients with age-disorientation due to acute stroke, both analyses yielded a circumscribed center of common lesion at the insula.

2016, Clinical Neurophysiology PracticeCitation Excerpt :Our results suggest that the right IPA and STA are associated with the recognition process of the calculated results rather than with the essential calculation. Frontal activations during the calculation task involved the verbal working memory, which distributes as an executive front-parietal network of the left hemisphere (Arsalidou and Taylor, 2011; Burbaud et al., 1995; Chochon et al., 1999; Cowell et al., 2000; Dehaene et al., 1999; Gruber et al., 2001; Menon et al., 2000; Pesenti et al., 2000; Rickard et al., 2000; Roland and Friberg, 1985; Rueckert et al., 1996; Sakurai et al., 1996). In the present study, because subjects were requested to add single-digit figures, they may not be required to do a complex processing such as a working memory.
