2018, Food and Chemical ToxicologyCitation Excerpt :Furthermore PAs from different structural type produced a common set of (±)-6,7-dihydro-7-hydroxy-1-hydroxymethyl-5H-pyrrolizine-derived DNA adducts and similar types of genotoxic events. The major types of such mutations described were G: C to T: A transversions and tandem base substitutions, consistent with a mechanism involving adduct formation at G nucleotides (Mei et al., 2005; Mei and Chen, 2007; Nyska et al., 2002). Overall, these results provide strong evidence that PAs induce tumours via a genototoxic mode of action (Chen et al., 2010; Fu, 2017; Merz and Schrenk, 2016).
