Abstract
Why another review dealing with testicular descent? In 1996 Hutson et al. published a monograph in this series entitled Normal Testicular Descent and the Aetiology of Cryptorchidism. They stated: “Part of the dilemma is carried by lack of understanding of the normal process of descent, despite intensive research and study since the eighteenth century when Hunter and von Haller first described gubernaculum.…More needs to be known.” Two hundred years of studies have brought many theories and contradictions.
