The comparative genetics ofDrosophila pseudoobscura andD. melanogaster

  • Published:
Journal of Genetics Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

1. Several new mutant types ofpseudoobscura are described.

2. New linkage maps of all the chromosomes are presented.

3. The known parallel mutations ofpseudoobscura andMelanogaster are discussed.

4. The following homologies are established, there being no clearly exceptional data:

Table 1

5. Few or no translocations or inversions across spindle-attachments have become established since these species diverged from a common ancestor; but at least nineteen inversions within the separate arms have become established.

6. The right arm of theX inpseudoobscura has the same loci as the left limb of III inmelanogaster andsimulans. This same material lies inX inaffinis, obscura, andwillistoni. It constitutes chromosome III ofvirilis.
