Are Bessel Beams Supportable in Graded-Index Media?

Abstract

We disprove the existence of a family of Bessel beams [J. Durnin, J.J. Miceli, Jr. and J.H. Eberly: Phys. Rev. Lett. 58 (1987) 1499] for any realistic graded-index media.
