2017, Biomedical Signal Processing and ControlCitation Excerpt :MIDS is based on perceptual organizational principle. Compared with PAA method [17], that only considers local maximum/minimum points and local maximum/minimum points of derivative, this method considers waveforms and set some rules according to clinician visual cognition to define the completeness of each wave. MIDS imitates human visual detection of waveforms process, so MIDS results conform to human visual analysis results.
Two features of sleep slow waves: Homeostatic and reactive aspects - from long term to instant sleep homeostasis
2014, Sleep MedicineCitation Excerpt :Therefore sleep slow wave measures can be good markers for structural changes in neuronal networks [53,54]. Recently, explicit models have been formulated about the relationship of sleep slow wave activity with synaptic pruning [54,55], as well as about the involvement of sleep slow wave activity in tilting the balance between the formation of new synapses and the elimination of existing ones [56]. These models convey the idea of the tight relationship between age-dependent changes in neural plasticity and sleep slow wave activity.
