2008, American Journal of Obstetrics and GynecologyCitation Excerpt :Although the reports in the literature deal with hypercalcemia in pregnancy from several aspects, the possible association between maternal and/or fetal hypercalcemia and polyhydramnion was not considered before this study. Fung et al17 and later Daskas et al18 described 2 cases of congenital mesoblastic nephroma associated with hypercalcemia in newborn infants, in which polyhydramnion was noted during the course of the pregnancies. The authors suggested a causative role for the fetal mesoblastic nephroma through fetal hypercalcemia in the generation of polyhydramnion, among other mechanisms presumably led to the polyhydramnion and polyuria, but the subject was not further investigated.
Imaging of Fetal Tumors
2007, Ultrasound ClinicsCitation Excerpt :MR imaging can be helpful in distinguishing between an upper pole renal mass and an adrenal lesion [78,117]. Polyhydramnios (likely secondary to polyuria) and hypercalcemia may occur [118]. The outcome from mesoblastic nephroma is excellent if complications do not occur in utero.
