Abstract

Interspecific mouse crosses used in conjunction with cloned sequences are facilitating gene localization and high resolution meiotic analysis of the mouse genome. Determination of the recombination breakpoints on individual chromosomes allows gene ordering by ‘pedigree analysis’ rather than by recombination distance estimation alone. The potential value of this system is demonstrated by recent advances in our knowledge of the genetics of the mouse X chromosome.
