Specifically, testosterone has been shown to influence CA synthesis in peripheral sympathetic ganglia (Melvin and Hamill, 1987; 1989; Hamill and Schroeder, 1990), and the concentration of NE, the key sympathetic neurotransmitter in various organs receiving sympathetic innervation, including the thymus (Lara et al., 1985; Pilipović et al., 2008). However, although it has been shown that prepubertal orchidectomy influences thymic CA concentrations (Pilipović et al., 2008), cellular and molecular mechanisms standing behind this phenomenon have not yet been defined.
