Summary

This brief note reports the nucleotide sequences of the secondnifH region ofMethanobacterium ivanovii and of the twonifH regions ofMethanosarcina barkeri 227. In the three cases, nifH is followed by two ORF (open reading frames similar to ORF105 and ORF128 respectively, which were previously found downstream ofMethanococcus thermolithotrophicus nifH. These two ORF are followed bynifD inM. ivanovii as well as in the firstnifH region ofM. barkeri 227. Both types of ORF exhibit a strong homology with theglnB gene.

This publication, prepared from raw data found in the notebooks of Lionel Sibold after his death in October 1989, will be his last contribution to the genetics of nitrogen fixation and methanogens.
