Low magnesium intake is associated with increased knee pain in subjects with radiographic knee osteoarthritis: data from the Osteoarthritis Initiative
2018, Osteoarthritis and CartilageCitation Excerpt :Mediterranean diet was associated with lower WOMAC scores and better quality of life41, and higher milk consumption was linked to reduced radiographic OA progression in women42. Interestingly, milk-based dietary supplements have also been shown to reduce OA pain symptoms in two randomized clinical trials43,44. As milk and components of the Mediterranean diet are high in magnesium, it is plausible that magnesium intake is the common mechanism of their effect on pain and function.
Hyperimmune colostrum alleviates rheumatoid arthritis in a collagen-induced arthritis murine model
2018, Journal of Dairy ScienceCitation Excerpt :Hyperimmune milk and colostrum, which are produced by hyperimmunizing dairy cows with a polyvalent bacterial vaccine followed by low-temperature processing, contain higher levels of total and antigen-specific immunoglobulins (Gingerich and McPhillips, 2004) compared with their conventional dairy counterparts. Hyperimmune milk has been shown to suppress inflammation in animal models (Owens and Nickerson, 1989; Ormrod and Miller, 1992, 1993; Walter et al., 2011) and hyperimmune milk protein concentrate to alleviate the symptoms of osteoarthritis in human subjects (Colker et al., 2002; Zenk et al., 2002). Several animal models are available in which an RA-like state can be induced and used to study the etiology and pathogenetic mechanisms involved (Bendele, 2001; Wagner et al., 2008).

Clinical Experience Using MicroLactin for the Treatment of Equine Inflammatory Disease
2009, Journal of Equine Veterinary ScienceCitation Excerpt :MicroLactin, a patented milk protein concentrate from the milk of hyperimmunized cows, is reported to inhibit neutrophil adherence and migration, and it is also reported to participate in the immune response in musculoskeletal conditions, including arthritis.14 Clinical benefits from MicroLactin treatment are documented for osteoarthritis in dogs15 and humans16,17 based on double-blind, placebo-controlled trials. In these studies, osteoarthritis scores were improved compared with the initial scores at 2-week, 4-week, 6-week, and 8-week posttreatment examinations, with no adverse effects recorded during the trials.
