The serological interrelationships among 17 type A FMD virus strains from eight Asian countries were studied by the two-dimensional microneutralization test. Complex direct and indirect relationships were observed. Overall, however, the virus strains studied could be classified as belonging to the A22 group on the basis of r value differentiation at P < 0·01.

Bovine vaccinate serum (BVS) prepared at IIL and at WRL-IAH using O1 Manisa monovalent vaccine was used to measure the in vitro relative homology (r1) value of O1 Campos to O1 Manisa vaccine strain. Two dimensional micro neutralization assay (MNT) was performed as per the method described by Rweyemamu and Hingley [15]. Ninety-eight Jersey or Friesian cross bred cattle (10–12 months of age) were obtained from the holding farm of IIL, Hyderabad.
