Spondyloarthritides
2019, The Autoimmune DiseasesMechanistic immunological based classification of rheumatoid arthritis
2018, Autoimmunity ReviewsCitation Excerpt :Indeed, these extrasynovial signs of soft tissue pathology and less bony alterations help explain Jaccoud's arthropathy phenotypes from classical forms of erosive RA disease [80]. This anatomical compartmentalisation is also evident in the RS3PE variant of RA which is also capsular based, but not deforming and thought to be more autoinflammatory in nature since it is a benign self-limiting polyarthritis [81]. Hence an anatomical epicentre of inflammation outside the synovial cavity may give clinical joint swelling but without necessarily the joint destruction typical of the classical ACPA+ RA.

2013, The Autoimmune Diseases: Fifth EditionVaried Presentations of Enthesopathy
2007, Seminars in Arthritis and RheumatismCitation Excerpt :While entheseal involvement in SpA is a prominent and, probably, central feature of the disease, enthesopathy in RA is generally believed to be secondary to articular synovial inflammation. Different in its clinical appearance than that typically seen in SpA, RA enthesopathy usually attracts less attention (19-21). However, according to one study, the prevalence of entheseal abnormalities detected by US was not different in patients with ankylosing spondylitis and RA (22).
MR Imaging: Arthropathies and Infectious Conditions of the Elbow, Wrist, and Hand
2006, Radiologic Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :The conspicuity of lesions can be augmented using fat suppression imaging techniques [16,17]. The presence of periarticular joint enhancement, bone marrow edema, and erosions may predict joint damage and assess treatment outcome [18–20]. MR imaging reveals manifestations of synovitis that include increased signal on fluid-sensitive sequences conforming to areas that are invested by synovium.
