    Citation Excerpt :

The tested compounds arise from diverse lichen species collected in different localities of Continental and Antarctic Chile. Atranorin (1) was isolated from Bacidia stipata as previously described [15]. Gyrophoric acid (2) was isolated from Ochrolechia deceptionis Hue.

The tested compounds arise from diverse lichen species collected in different localities of Continental and Antarctic Chile. Atranorin (1) was isolated from Bacidia stipata as previously described [6]. Diffrattaic acid (2) was isolated from Protousnea magellanica, Laguna Icalma (IX región, Chile) as previously reported [7].

  • Pro-apoptotic activity of ergosterol peroxide and (22E)-ergosta-7,22-dien-5α-hydroxy-3,6-dione in human prostate cancer cells

    2010, Chemico-Biological Interactions
    Citation Excerpt :

The pro-vitamin D2, ergosterol (ergosta-5,7,22-trien-3β-ol) is abundant in mushrooms and has shown chemoprevention activity [6]. Ergosterol peroxide (5α,8α-epidioxy-22E-ergosta-6, 22-dien-3β-ol) can be found in plants [7], lichens [8] and mushrooms such as Ganoderma lucidum[9], Sporothrix schenckii[10] and Cordyceps sinensis[11]. Various biological activities were known for this compound, i.e., ergosterol peroxide has immunosuppressive [12–14], antiviral [15,16], anti-inflammatory [17], and antitumor [11,17] activities.
