NK2 homeobox gene cluster: Functions and roles in human diseases
2023, Genes and DiseasesCitation Excerpt :In humans, more than 200 homeobox-containing genes have been identified8 and, for most of them, a specific role during development has been delineated.9 Mutations in several homeobox-containing genes are either causative of monogenic diseases or risk factors for polygenic ones.10,11 Based on sequence conservation, homeobox-containing genes are grouped into different classes, subclasses, and families.8
Global transcriptome study of Dip2B-deficient mouse embryonic lung fibroblast reveals its important roles in cell proliferation and development
2020, Computational and Structural Biotechnology JournalCitation Excerpt :Results demonstrate that multiple pathways are under Dip2B regulation and confirms that Dip2B is important in regulating membrane activities and be involved in regulation of metabolism. Homeodomain proteins encoded by Hox genes are responsible for regulating expression of many target genes involved in cell proliferation and differentiation [19–22]. These genes are also known to be involved in cancers and controlled by DNA methylation [23,24].
Developmental Neurotoxicity of Alcohol: Effects and Mechanisms of Ethanol on the Developing Brain
2018, Advances in NeurotoxicologyCitation Excerpt :Animal models of FASD have identified additional gene variants that are potentially involved in the susceptibility of the fetus to the effects of alcohol (McCarthy and Eberhart, 2014). It has been reported that binge alcohol exposure during the early phases of development reduces the expression of some homeobox genes, which direct the formation of many body structures during early development (Boncinelli, 1997; Halder et al., 2014; Rifas et al., 1997). There is also some evidence that alcohol-induced abnormalities may be caused by deficiencies in retinoic acid, its receptors, or its signaling.
