This study was designed to investigate the effects of improved vitamin D status on insulin sensitivity, insulin secretion, and on inflammatory markers in vitamin D insufficient patients with type 2 diabetes. As vitamin D status has been associated with plasma lipid concentrations, blood pressure [19,22,25], and bone mineral density (BMD) [26] these variables were also measured. The study design was a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind trial.
