Bartonella bovis and Bartonella chomelii infection in dairy cattle and their ectoparasites in Algeria
2020, Comparative Immunology, Microbiology and Infectious DiseasesCitation Excerpt :We report the first detection of B. bovis and B. chomelii in Algerian dairy cattle. In Africa, the presence of Bartonella in cattle has only been reported in Ivory Coast with 3/15 (20 %) animals infected with B. bovis [26], Senegal in 29 (27.9 %) fo 104 cattle, including 27 animals (93.1 %) infected with B. bovis and two (6.9 %) infected with a new Bartonella species, proposed as Candidatus Bartonella davousti in western Africa [11]. The prevalence of 15.3 % in our study is therefore lower than in cattle from sub-Saharan Africa for B. bovis.

2017, Comparative Immunology, Microbiology and Infectious DiseasesCitation Excerpt :In Africa, several Bartonella spp. strains isolated from animals have been reported, such as B. henselae from wild African lions (Panthera leo) and cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) [28], B. henselae and B. clarridgeiae from dogs in Gabon [29], and B. henselae from cats in South Africa [30]. Cattle bartonellosis caused by B. bovis has only been reported once, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast [31]. Recently Bartonella senegalensis and Bartonella massiliensis, a newly recognized species, have been isolated from Ornithodoros sonrai soft ticks in Senegal [32].
