Chemically patterned porous silicon photonic crystals towards internally referenced organic vapour sensors

Abstract

The fabrication of chemically patterned porous silicon (pSi) photonic crystals towards their use as an internally referenced organic vapour sensor is reported. The sensor fabrication technique involves photoresist patterning and surface silanisation of pSi photonic crystals to produce patterns of hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions. The photonic response to the presence of organic vapour is monitored at the interface of these regions.
