Technology-Dependent Children
2021, Emergency Medicine Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :See Table 1 for common G-tubes used in children. Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube are placed by pediatric gastroenterologists under general anesthesia or deep sedation.5,6 G-tubes can then be converted to low-profile PEG buttons for convenience with the additional benefit of cosmetic appearance and reduced risk of dislodgement.7
Endoscopic Enteral Access
2020, Surgical Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :By the year 2000, it was estimated that around 200,000 PEGs were done per year in the United States alone with only 4% of them being in children.2,3 Around 260,000 PEG kits were being sold by the medical device industry.2,4 This has likely increased with time and the increasing elderly adult population.

2019, Journal of Pediatric SurgeryFeasibility and results of pull-percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy for enteral nutrition in adults with severe cerebral palsy
2016, Clinical NutritionCitation Excerpt :In the absence of a gold standard for adult CP patients, poor nutritional status was estimated as BMI <13 and/or albuminemia <35 g/L. CRP (C reactive protein) was checked before the intervention and was in all cases below 10 mg/L. PEG procedure and pre-operative ASA (American Society of Anesthesiologists) score were found in the medical and anesthesia files. All PEGs (CorfloÂź 16 French, from AnsellÂź, Cergy-Pontoise, France), inserted with a two operator technique, were carried out under general anesthesia (oral intubation, propofol and remifentanil) using polyurethane material via the âpullâ technique [20] with pre-operative mouth disinfection and antibiotic prophylaxis i.v. with cefamandole or erythromycin plus gentalline. Six hours after PEG-tube placement, the patient continuously received 500 mL of water until the following day to test tolerance.
